Welcome to my web site!

On this home page, I'll introduce our school and include important information and dates for students and parents.  I welcome you to our new school!  If you are interested in attending our school, make sure to register for the lottery with Anchorage School District.

A high-quality education is one of the most important things that we can provide a child. Here at the Rilke School we strive to provide your child with a high quality education with the added bonus of learning German fluently.  I am fortunate enough to have native-speaking volunteers to assist in the classroom, as well as high school students who speak German as well.  In addition to school, we also provide club opportunities such as Drama Club, Homework Club and Travel Club.  Each year the children in grades 6-8 will have the opportunity to participate in the trip to Germany and stay with a host family.

This web site is a terrific way to access the information you need about my class and our current projects.  You can also get a look at the new projects we are working on.

Homework is an essential part of our learning here at Rilke Schule, but I will attempt to keep it to a minumum.  The most important thing you can do with your child is read to them or with them every day.  I also want to stress that even if you do not speak German, you can assist your child in my class.  Please ask your child to teach you some German words and phrases, and practice the vocabulary lists that are sent home.  If I assign homework, the work is due the next day.  When a child is absent, s/he can get the work the day s/he returns to class and has two days to turn it in.  After that, I will accept homework late, but it goes down a whole grade for each additional day that is taken.  When special circumstances arise, please contact me, and we will arrive at an answer together.
